SONY GROUP: the strong brands of an impressively successful group

From the umbrella brand Sony (Sony Music, Sony Interactive, Sony Pictures) to PlayStation, the Japanese company created in 1958 combines the activities and leading brands.

The Sony brand is valued at $ 15 billion by BrandFinance and Interbrand. It's not bad already, but the market capitalization (the value of the share multiplied by the number of shares) stands at $ 150 billion.

Dating back to the 1980s, Sony's slogan "Dreamed it, Sony made it" has always lived up to its name. The group has chronologically invented a color television (with Trinitron), a portable television, the walkman (ancestor of the iPod ...), the Compact Disc, the camcorder, the recordable laser Mini Disc, the CD-Extra connected with Internet access.

From the 90s, Sony is also a major in music with Sony Music and a major in cinema with Sony Pictures (and their other brands) and a major in video games, one of the most prolific sectors today with the famous PlayStation launched in 1995. In July 2021, the PlayStation 5 broke the records of previous versions by selling 10 million units 7 months after its launch and despite the Covid-19.

Note also other leading brands of the Sony group: God of War, Funimation, Crunchyroll and Bravia. At CES in Las Vegas earlier this year, a Sony executive called their latest Bravia XR TV monitor "perfect for the PlayStation 5". The marketing argument of the moment is effectively to convince young people of the great quality of the Bravia XR for playing and therefore of its great quality for watching television when you're a parent ... If it's films or clips produced by Sony Pictures and Sony Music is even better.

So Sony has come full circle and managed the convergence of content and hardware admirably, but it's not going to stop there. The group is embarking on the electric and semi-autonomous car with the launch of a magnificent sedan in 2023 called the "VISION-S".

By then, Sony group corporation shares are up + 28% over 1 year and + 279% over 5 years as of January 13, 2022. And the average recommendation of financial analysts on marketscreener.com is to… BUY.
